What is Wiser?

• Western Indiana Sustainable Energy Resource (WISER) is a BioTown™ USA initiative that was formed as a regional network of economic development organizations, college and university representatives, and business and industry leaders interested in promoting the use of renewable energy technologies and increasing energy efficiency measures in homes and businesses.

WISER, a BioTown™ USA initiative, benefits Western Indiana Counties in the following ways:

• Wiser is the catalyst between sustainability and profitability by the networking of energy professionals, manufacturers, agricultural producers, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and Local Economic Development Organizations (LEDOs).
• Wiser provides area businesses with valuable information and consultation in a forum that creates ideas, partnerships, and action.
• Wiser assists area businesses and manufacturers concerning emerging technology alternatives to reduce energy expenditures, create energy efficiencies and conserve corporate resources.
• Wiser showcases Western Indiana’s technology and increases opportunities for area businesses to promote tourism to sustainable energy facilities in Western Indiana.
• Wiser promotes businesses and manufacturers using sustainable practices through media placements, regional tours, and educational outreach to schools, civic groups, and businesses.
• Wiser generates business by representing Western Indiana’s leadership in sustainable energy development at regional and national events.
• Wiser is partnered with Purdue University and Ivy Tech to develop curriculums and programs to recruit, train and prepare the Indiana workforce for sustainable energy opportunities of tomorrow.
• Wiser partners with area primary schools and communities to communicate the importance of energy conservation, stewardship and development of sustainable energy alternatives.
• Wiser partners with (LEDOs) to attract new sustainable energy opportunities to the region through further development of sustainable energy resources within Western Indiana as work force development.
