Workforce Development Tippecanoe County is home to Purdue University, a world-class university known for its excellence and leadership in engineering and agriculture.  Purdue offers a host of undergraduate and graduate degree programs relating to careers in the sustainable energy field.

Tippecanoe County is also the home to Ivy Tech Community College, Lafayette. Ivy Tech offers many certificate programs and associate degrees, and the Lafayette campus was the first in the state to offer an associate of science sustainable energy degree.

Another strategic workforce development resource in Tippecanoe County is Tecumseh Area Partnership, a workforce intermediary that understands the requirements of area employers, and provides training and job counseling services to prospective job applicants.

Supply Chain Links Tippecanoe County is home to several large manufacturers that play key roles in the sustainable energy supply chain. Fairfield Manufacturing in Lafayette designs and manufactures gears and transmission components used in commercial-scale wind turbines. The Caterpillar plant in Lafayette manufactures engine-generator sets which are used in biogas, biomass, and distributed generation applications. These engine-generator sets are sold and supported by MacAllister Caterpillar which has a dealership in Lafayette.

One of the largest component suppliers for the Caterpillar facility in Lafayette is Kirby Risk, also in Lafayette, which assembles many of the electrical sub-assemblies for the engine-generator sets. One more Tippecanoe County company that is a strategic player in the sustainable energy market is Landis+Gyr which designs and markets meters and communication systems which are key components in smart grid technology.
