Operating Wind Farms Benton was the first county in Indiana to develop commercial-scale wind farms, and it retains its position of leadership by having over 800 megawatts of capacity installed, with more still being developed. The first wind farm to be commissioned in Indiana was the Benton County Wind Farm which has 130.5 megawatts in the Earl Park area. Fowler Ridge phases I and II contribute another 600 megawatts, and the Hoosier Wind Farm adds 106 megawatts. Phase II of the Meadow Lake Wind Farm will extend into Benton County as well. Benton County officials are making plans to create a wind power information and interpretive center.
Potential Wind Development Although Benton County is already one of the largest producers of wind energy in the world, there are still areas of opportunity for further wind development within the county.
Biomass Opportunities There are many opportunities for biomass production and generation in Benton County.
